Job Description: The appointee would assist Dr. Peter Minchin (http://www.siue.edu/~pminchi/) with current research projects in his lab during the fall semester 2009. Duties may include data collection in the field, data entry, statistical analysis, and preparation of Figures and Tables. The student would also develop a Master’s research project under the guidance of Dr. Minchin, in the general area of Conservation Biology or Restoration Ecology. Though his lab focuses on applied community ecology, particularly the conservation and restoration of plant communities and animal habitat modeling, Dr. Minchin would be happy to work with the successful applicant to develop a Master’s project in line with his or her interests. Subject to satisfactory progress in the lab and course work, the student would be eligible for Teaching Assistantship (TA) support (with full tuition waiver) for an additional three semesters. SIUE (http://www.siue.edu/) is situated on a beautiful 2,660 acre campus and is only 20 minutes from downtown St. Louis.

Qualifications Required: Applicant should have completed a Bachelor’s degree in science with courses in ecology, botany, zoology and/or environmental science and must be accepted into the graduate program of the Department of Biological Sciences at SIUE to undertake a Master of Science degree under the supervision of Dr. Minchin.

Period of Appointment: August 16, 2009 - December 31, 2009.

Salary: $919.50 per month for 4.5 month plus full tuition waiver for fall semester.
