The database research group at the University of Sydney / Australia is looking for an excellent candidate for the position of a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Research Fellow in the ARC funded project ‘Escaping the Concurrency Tradeoff: a New Approach to Enterprise Software’.
The ÔEscaping the Concurrency TradeoffÕ project investigates new data processing protocols and concurrency control techniques for guaranteeing correctness and optimising performance for enterprise software platforms without requiring vendors to modify data application business logic. The project involves work on data replication and data freshness in loosely-coupled, service-oriented infrastructures, and links with the other cloud-data-management projects of our group to ensure the general applicability of the newly developed techniques. The successful candidate will engage in research and scholarly activities around this project, working closely with Associate Professor Alan Fekete and Dr Uwe Roehm.
We expect applicants to fulfil the following essential criteria for the position: a PhD (or near completion); strong background in software development; experience in developing and debugging systems internals (threading, shared memory, etc); skill in performance evaluation of software systems; knowledge of architecture and algorithms used in database platforms; demonstrated evidence of research ability and research potential; good communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
Some additional desirable characteristics are: knowledge of system internals of some (open source) database system; expertise in C or C++; specific knowledge of replication protocols are also some of the desirable criteria.
The position is full-time fixed term for two years, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for a new appointee. There is the possibility of further offers of employment, subject to funding and need. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.
