The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage 02 Research Personnel (01-Junior Research Fellow and 01-Technical Assistant) through a Walk-in-Interview to be held on Tuesday, 21st July 2009. The details of the positions along with essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below.

Details of project and position

Project Title, details of position and duration

Study of flora and fauna in the context of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) & Environment Management Plan (EMP) for command area of Narmada Canal Project in Rajasthan.

(01 – JRF)

Duration: One year

Essential Qualification

Masters degree in Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/ Environment Sciences/Biological Sciences/Wildlife Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification

Adequate knowledge and skills of conducting ecological and socio-economic surveys. Prior experience of working on projects related to the assessment of impacts of linear developments such as roads and canals on biodiversity and people.

Description of Work

The job would involve conducting environmental and social impact assessment studies of the Narmada Canal Project in the state of Rajasthan. Assist in preparation of an Environmental Management Plan to address the environmental issues associated with the project. The selected candidate will be required to work in south-western part of Rajasthan and should have good skills of computer use as well as data analysis.

M.Sc. in Zoology/Biological Sciences/Sociology/Wildlife Science with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification

Working experience in collection of information/data on sociological aspects of people and their dependency on natural resources, land use patterns, and on biodiversity.

Description of Work

Technical Assistant will be required to assist the Junior Research Fellow in collection of data related to evaluation of impacts of proposed Narmada Canal on natural resources and socio-economic aspects of people. The selected candidate will be required to work in south-western part of Rajasthan and should have good skills of computer use as well as data analysis.


GENERAL:

  1. The age of the candidate shall not be more than 28 years as on 20th July 2009. Upper age limit for JRF may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.

  2. Selected candidate for the position of Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and Technical Assistant will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 12,000/- and Rs. 6,400/- per month, respectively.

  3. Research personnel may be allowed hostel accommodation at the Institute, as per availability. In case hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute. Other allowances and benefits to the Research Personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.

  4. Engagement on the above positions will be purely on a temporary basis initially and may be extended for further period(s) depending upon the requirement and the tenure of project.

  5. The selection of the candidates will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on Tuesday, 21st July 2009 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun.

  6. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.

  7. The `Walk in Interview’ will be conducted on 21st July 2009 and the registration of candidates will begin at 0930 hrs.

  8. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.

  9. Applications without enclosures and/or incomplete in any respect shall be liable to rejection.

  10. Two way travel expenses will be paid to the candidates, selected for the project. The expense will be limited to actual 2nd class rail/bus fare by the shortest route from his/her place of stay/residence.

  11. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.

  12. The application form can be downloaded from the Institute’s website www.wii.gov.in.

  13. The Director, WII reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete information provided by the candidate or for any other reason.
