Application Deadline: July 31, 2009

In our multidisciplinary and international research group (group leader: Prof. Simone Fulda), we study apoptosis signaling in cancers to identify key molecules for the development of new cancer therapeutics and novel prognostic biomarkers (e.g. see Nat Med, 2002, 8:808-15; Cancer Res, 2008, 68:7956-65; Blood, 2009, 113:1710-22).

The current project will focus on the elucidation of apoptosis pathways in cancer stem cells derived from malignant brain tumors using primary tumor samples, cancer stem cell lines and mouse tumor models.

Benefits:

* The position will be paid according to established scales for Post-Docs (TV-L/E13, 100%).

* Successful applicants have the opportunity to participate in (inter)national research networks on apoptosis that are coordinated by the project leader, e.g. an EU-funded Marie Curie Research Training Network, an EU-funded large-scale project and a DFG-funded clinical research group.

* The position can be filled immediately, initially for 2 years with the possibility to extend for additional years.

* Ulm is a flourishing city with a picturesque Old Town, situated in the middle between Stuttgart and Munich directly at the river Danube. It is known as the birth place of Albert Einstein and for having the tallest church in the world.

Requirements:

* We are seeking candidates who are self-motivated and career-oriented to join a young and dynamic research team.
* Interested candidates must have a PhD or an equivalent doctoral degree.
* Applicants with a strong background in molecular biology, cancer biology and stem cell biology are encouraged to apply.
