PhD Scholarship in Chemistry: “Clean energy generation: Synthesis of photosensitisers for water splitting”, The University of Queensland, Australia.

Job Description : The Role: The School is offering a PhD scholarship in chemistry, involving a research project related to “Clean energy generation: Synthesis of photosensitisers for water splitting”, working at a new research centre, Centre for Organic Photonics and Electronics.

It is desirable that the successful candidate will take up the position as soon as possible.

The Person: Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree with 1st class honours in chemistry, or a master’s degree with a research component (chemistry related fields). Both domestic and overseas applicants will be considered if they fulfil the criteria for PhD admission of the University of Queensland and demonstrate excellent research capacity. For overseas applicants, valid English language proficiency test results that meet with the University requirements: are required for the application.

Remuneration: Successful candidates not holding an APA will be awarded a research scholarship valued at $22,500 per annum for 3 years (tax exempt). There is also a possible 6 month extension to the appointments. For international students, it is possible to waive the tuition fee for highly competitive applications.

The ACT Women’s Plan identifies key priority areas to improve equity for women and girls in our society.
The ACT Women’s Directors Scholarships Program is a key action under this objective that aims to develop the skills and expertise of women who currently are or who aspire to be in decision-making roles.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Directors Scholarship applicants must be:

(a) female;
(b) an Australian citizen or permanent resident;
(c) a resident of the ACT, or working in the ACT for the past 2 years;
(d) an aspiring director (i.e. you have taken steps to be nominated for appointment to a government or non-government organisation, board, committee or company); or
(e) a newly appointed director of a government or non-government organisation, board, committee or company; or
(f) a director-owner of a private company; or
(g) currently in a management role that requires an understanding of governance issues to effectively fulfil that role.

Please note: previous recipients of a Scholarship through the ACT Women’s Director Scholarship Program are not eligible to apply.

The Scholarships

Two Scholarships are available for the Company Directors course. The Company Directors Course is conducted by arrangement with the Australian Institute of Company Directors. The course assists with developing the skills and knowledge of directors and senior officers, thereby contributing to improved individual, company and board performance.

PhD Studentship – Metal Organic Frameworks for Gas, CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering, Australia.

Applications are invited for a PhD Studentship in the research area of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs). Metal-Organic Frameworks are an emerging class of materials with exceptional porosity on the molecular and mesoscale. Consisting of metal atoms or clusters linked in a periodic fashion through organic molecules, MOFs have pores of 0.5-5 nm diameter, walls just one atom thick, and surface areas of several thousand square metres per gram. The utility of these materials for gaseous fuel storage has recently been demonstrated.The position would involve the development of new MOFs, with a focus on light-weight metals such as Mg, Ca and Al. These MOFs would be specifically tailored towards hydrogen storage, natural gas (methane) storage or carbon dioxide capture applications. The Top-Up Scholarship will provide the opportunity to work with people who are leaders in their field, a stipend and a secondment to an international laboratory.

Lillian Passmore Donovan Scholarship 2011

Lillian Passmore Donovan Scholarship 2011

The Scholarship has been implemented to recognise the contributions of Lillian Passmore Donovan as an Indigenous woman committed to the field of social work and social justice. Lillian worked for three decades across a range of agencies, both government and non-government in rural and urban settings. Her final position was with the Victim Support Unit in the Department of Justice. She also worked for the Western Australian Department for Community Development, the Aboriginal Accommodation Service and the Manguri Aboriginal Corporation. She worked in South Australia with the Department of Community Welfare as a Senior Aboriginal Community Development Worker and Senior Supervisor. In recognition of the quality of her practice and Scholarship, Lillian won the Peter Jordan Award for Social Justice when graduating from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Social work.The Scholarship is aimed specifically at Indigenous people with an interest in pursuing a career in social work.

Applications are open to all Indigenous Australians who are either currently undertaking Year 12 studies, or mature age applicants wishing to pursue a career in social work, or are currently enrolled in an undergraduate social work degree at Curtin University.

What This Scholarship Provides:

The Scholarship will meet the cost of the student fees each year for a Commonwealth Supported place, plus a $2,000 cash payment per year to assist with costs associated with studying (textbooks, incidental expenses etc) for the normal expected duration of the degree for which the Scholarship is offered.

The University reserves the right to reduce the amount of assistance where applicants are in receipt of other Scholarships.
Students will only be awarded one continuing Scholarship. A continuing Scholarship is defined as a Scholarship that has more than one payment.
The fee component of the Scholarship will be paid directly to the student fee account in two installments per year to be paid prior to the census date relevant to each enrolled semester.
The cash payment of the Scholarship will be paid to the student’s nominated bank account in two installments of $1,000 (pro rata if part-time) per year. First and second semester payments will occur post census dates (thus approx mid-end April and mid-end Sept).

Be an Indigenous Australian.
Have selected Curtin University as a first or second preference through TISC to undertake a Bachelor of
Social work.
Be undertaking the first semester of their first Undergraduate Degree at Curtin University in 2011.
Be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported place.
Application Process:

1. An applicant must submit a completed application form with supporting documentation attached by 4:30pm on Monday 15th November, 2010, to the Scholarships Office at the Bentley campus. Application forms are available on the Scholarships website.

3. All applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application in mid-January 2011.
4. In order to accept the Scholarship a recipient will be requested to return a signed Terms and Conditions document and provide bank details.
5. If a recipient wants to defer their Scholarship they will need to complete the necessary paperwork that will be included with their offer of a Scholarship.
6. Once the Scholarship has been accepted, the Scholarship will commence from the first semester of study.
7. A Lillian Passmore Donovan Scholarship is not transferable to another university or degree.

Job Description: The Developmental Neurobiology and Genomics laboratory within the Brain and Mind Research Institute (BMRI) at the University of Sydney is offering three PhD projects in the research areas hypothalamic obesity, neurodegeneration (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS), and X-linked intellectual disability. Job Description: The Fay Marles Scholarship is awarded to applicants wishing to undertake graduate research studies at the University who are of Indigenous Australian descent and/or who have had their tertiary studies adversely affected by personal circumstances.

Number
The University of Melbourne offers up to eight Fay Marles Scholarships each year.

Eligibility criteria

1. Applicants must plan have applied for, or be currently enrolled in, a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne.

*FMSs cannot be awarded to support studies towards a graduate coursework degree, graduate diploma or postgraduate certificate.

2. Applicants seeking an FMS must have completed tertiary studies that are at least equivalent to a 4-year Australian Honours degree with a minimum grade average of a high H2A (ie. upper second class average which equates to 78-79% at the University of Melbourne.)

3. Applicants must provide evidence showing that they meet one or more of the following criteria:

* they are of Indigenous Australian descent, and/or
* their tertiary studies have been adversely affected by one or more of the following:
* illness
* disability
* family responsibilities (eg. child bearing or rearing, sustained care of a dependent family member, etc.), or
* traumatic event(s) that were beyond their control.

4. FMSs are not awarded to applicants who:

* cannot provide evidence of circumstances to support their FMS application
* have already completed a course deemed to be at the same level or higher level than the course for which they are seeking scholarship support
* have previously received a HRS, MRS, PES, Scholarship for Women with Career Interruptions or a Postgraduate Scholarship for Indigenous Australians
* as a result of previous candidature and/or prior scholarship, have a maximum tenure of less than 12 months
* have already been awarded or later receive another equivalent award, scholarship or salary for the studies for which they seek a FMS. An “equivalent” award is regarded as one greater than 75% of the base FMS rate (75% of the base 2010 FMS rate = $16,875), or
* are awarded an APA or MRS before the FMS selection meeting in January.

Selection criteria
Selection of the FMS is primarily based on three main criteria: personal circumstance, academic merit, and strength of the supporting documents.

Job Description: The Human Rights Scholarship is awarded to applicants wishing to undertake graduate research studies at the University in the human rights field and who are able to demonstrate their commitment to the peaceful advancement of respect for human rights.

Each year the University of Melbourne offers 2 HRSs to applicants wishing to undertake a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne.

Benefits & conditions

Human Rights Scholarship benefits include:

* a living allowance of $26,000 per annum (2010 rate)
* a Relocation Grant of $2,000 awarded to students who are moving from interstate in order to study at the University of Melbourne or $3,000 awarded to those who are moving from overseas
* a Thesis Allowance of up to $420 (2010 rate) for masters by research and up to $840 (2010 rate) for PhD and other doctorate by research candidates, and
* Paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.

Fees

Please note that the HRS does not cover international graduate research degree course fees.

Local graduate research degree HRS recipients are not charged course fees as they are allocated a Research Training Scheme (RTS) place. RTS places exempt students from the Higher Education Contribution (HECS) Scheme. Time limits and other conditions apply to RTS places. Eligibility criteria

1. Applicants for the HRS must be able to demonstrate that their commitment to the peaceful advancement of respect for human rights extends beyond their academic studies (such as voluntary work and/or work experience).

2. A high H2A (ie. 78-79% and above) is the minimum grade average usually required to be competitive for an HRS.

3. Applicants must have applied for, or be currently enrolled in, a graduate research degree in the human rights field at the University of Melbourne.

4. International students must have an unconditional course offer at the University of Melbourne for the course for which they seek the support of a HRS. See below for local and international HRS application procedures.

5. Applicants seeking a HRS to undertake a graduate research degree must normally meet the academic requirements that apply to the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS). Click here for further details about APA/MRS Eligibility.

6. HRSs are not awarded to applicants who:

* cannot provide evidence that their demonstrated commitment to human rights extends beyond their academic studies
* have already completed a course deemed to be at the same, or higher, level for which they are seeking scholarship support
* as a result of previous candidature and/or prior scholarship, have a maximum tenure of less than 12 months
* have previously received an MRS, FMS or PES, or
* have already been awarded or later receive another equivalent award, scholarship or salary for the studies for which they seek a HRS. An “equivalent” award is regarded as one greater than 75% of the base HRS rate (75% of the base 2010 HRS rate = $19,500).

Selection criteria

Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarships (MIFRS), Australia

Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarships,University of Melbourne,Australia

Job Description: The Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarship (MIFRS) is awarded to international students wishing to undertake graduate research degree studies at the University of Melbourne. MIFRSs are funded by the University with each faculty having a limited number to award.

Eligibility Criteria
a) Applicants must be intending to undertake a graduate research degree at the UoM.

The only exceptions are as follows:

* applicants enrolled in the MPsych/PhD or the SJD are eligible to apply for the APA, MRS/MIRS and MIFRS/IPRS from the second year of their course.
* applicants enrolled in the DEd are only eligible to apply for the MRS/MIRS and MIFRS/IPRS.

b) A scholarship will not be offered if the applicant has already completed a qualification at the same or higher level as the course for which a scholarship is sought. The only exception is as follows:

* if the student currently holds a masters by coursework they can be considered for a scholarship for masters by research studies.

c) Applicants who have commenced the graduate research degree for which they are seeking scholarship must have at least 12 months full time or equivalent candidature remaining from January 1st in the following year. A scholarship will not be offered to a student who, as a result of prior candidature and/or prior scholarship, is entitled to a maximum tenure of less than 12 months.

The only exception to this is where a fee remission scholarship other than an IPRS/MIFRS was held previously and the student requires an MIFRS for less than 12 months.

d) Applicants will only be considered for an IPRS in one selection round. Students who commenced their course in the year immediately before the current round of IPRS offers, and who were not considered in the previous round of IPRS offers, will be automatically identified by the MSO, considered for an IPRS and notified if they are to be offered a scholarship. An additional scholarship application is not required of these students.

e) Students who are seeking an MIFRS following the commencement of their course must submit an additional scholarship application (see section 2 for application details). Each faculty / graduate school will determine whether to award MIFRSs to students who have commenced the course for which a MIFRS is sought.

f) Applicants will only be considered for scholarship in one department at any one time.

Applicants who are interested in applying for a scholarship in more than one department should discuss research and scholarship options with the departments of interest before lodging their application for scholarship.

g) Cotutelle students should visit the Melbourne School of Graduate Research website for information regarding scholarship eligibility.

h) Students must inform the MSO immediately of any changes in their enrolment status. For example, changing from full-time to part-time study or from ‘on-campus’ to ‘off-campus’ enrolment status.

Job Description: The Phillipa Weeks Scholarship in Law was created in memory of Phillipa Christine Weeks who was a member of staff of the ANU College of Law from 1979 until her death in 2006 at the age of 53. The Scholarship Fund was established from money donated by the University, the College, staff of the College, alumni, family and friends.

Eligibility
The Phillipa Weeks Scholarship in Law is available to a person who:

Is a successful applicant for entry to the first year of a program of study leading to the award of Bachelor of Laws (LLB) whether undertaken as a single degree or part of a combined program;

has attended secondary school in a regional or remote area of Australia,
????
has completed school in the last 12 months; and
????
is a citizen of or holds permanent resident status in Australia.
The successful applicant must not have been previously enrolled in any tertiary degree or diploma program at a university or other institution of tertiary education whether in or outside Australia.

Application
Applications shall be called for annually with a closing date as set, from time to time, by the ANU College of Law Scholarship Committee.
The application shall be submitted in the form of a letter (with any relevant attachments), which sets out information in relation to the applicant’s achievements relative to opportunity, in the following areas:
•
academic performance over the final two years at secondary school;
•
leadership at school; and
•
community involvement.
The application should also give information about the regional or remote area in which the applicant lives and has received his or her schooling.
Three references supporting the application should be forwarded separately to the ANU College of Law Scholarship Committee. It would be expected that one of those references would cover leadership and academic performance, and one would cover community involvement. The third reference might be from another person who has known the applicant for a significant period but is not a member of the applicant’s family.
The applicant must apply separately for entry to the Australian National University.

The ANU College of Law Scholarship Committee will consider the applications taking into account the applicant’s academic performance, leadership qualities and achievements, and

Job Description: The purpose of the ANU Indigenous Australian Reconciliation PHD Scholarship is to support the development of future Australian Indigenous leaders to advance indigenous reconciliation.

Job Description: In 1895, Augusta Zadow became the first female Inspector of Factories in South Australia. She played a crucial role in securing better conditions for workers in factories, particularly women and children. Many of the working conditions we now take for granted are due to the efforts of Augusta Zadow.

The annual Zadow Awards were introduced in 1994 (Centenary of the Factories Act and Women’s Suffrage in South Australia) in recognition of the work carried out by Zadow, who worked tirelessly to bring about health and safety reforms in the workplace.

In 2005, the Augusta Zadow Scholarships were initiated. Two annual scholarships of up to $10,000 each are awarded each year to assist with occupational health, safety and welfare improvements undertaken by, or for the benefit of, women in South Australia.

The Augusta Zadow Committee (the Committee) assess applications and awards the Augusta Zadow Scholarships. The Committee includes representatives from SafeWork SA, WorkCover SA, Business SA, SA Unions, the Office for Women and the Working Women’s Centre.

Aims of the Scholarship

The scholarships aim to encourage initiatives that improve occupational health, safety and welfare outcomes by, or for the benefit of, women in South Australia.

USE OF SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are to be used to undertake:

* further education
* research
and/or
* occupational health, safety and welfare initiatives.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Applicants for the Augusta Zadow Scholarships must be:

* permanent residents of South Australia
* individuals who are able to commence their study/project/research in 2011.

Scholarships may be used for education, study or research in Australia or overseas.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Successful applicants will be selected against the criteria of the Augusta Zadow Scholarships:

* to make significant health and safety improvements for women through research and further education
and/or
* to provide a solution to a health and safety issue faced by women.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants must provide the Committee with a proposal (refer to the requirements in the ‘Scholarship Proposal’ section of this document).
The proposal must also include details of referees and demonstrate that the applicant meets all of the eligibility requirements.

The Committee will assess and award the Augusta Zadow Scholarships. Applicants who are short-listed will be invited to give a verbal presentation of their proposal to the Committee.

SCHOLARSHIP PROPOSAL

Your proposal must be a minimum of 500 words and must not exceed 1500 words in length and must include the following:

* an outline of how your proposal meets the selection criteria of the Augusta Zadow Scholarships
* an outline of how your proposal will benefit women in the workplace
* details of where the project, research or further education will be undertaken
* dates of the proposed course/study/project
* a one-page profile of yourself and a summary of the course/study/project you are proposing to undertake (for publicity and presentation purposes)
* an outline of the costs associated with your proposal
* an outline of how the funds will be used.

Job Description: The RSPCA Australia Alan White Scholarship for Animal Welfare Research was established in 1989 to advance the cause of animal welfare in Australia. The scholarship is named after Mr Alan White, a past President of RSPCA Australia and a past President of RSPCA Queensland. The Alan White Scholarship is available to full-time or part-time students in Australian tertiary institutions for the funding of original research aimed at improving the welfare of animals in Australia. The 2010 scholarship award will be for $7,780 and can be used towards any area of research that fits the general scholarship criteria.

Scholarship criteria

The following general criteria apply to applications for either type of award:

1. Applications should be for a discrete research project (which may or may not form part of a larger research program).
2. Applicants must demonstrate in their application that their proposed research project is supportive of the policies of RSPCA Australia and will be used to further animal welfare in Australia. All current policies can be viewed on the RSPCA Australia Knowledge Base.
3. Applicants must be enrolled in full-time or part-time education in an accredited course at an Australian University or College in the year their application is considered.
4. The Scholarships are not restricted to any particular academic discipline. However, applicants demonstrating a major commitment to and/or involvement with animal welfare issues are strongly favoured.

Job Description: The Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Scheme is an Australian Government initiative aimed at encouraging more people to enter aged care nursing, particularly in regional, rural and remote Australia.

How to apply
The Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Scheme – undergraduate application form will become available online once the scheme opens.

Value of scholarship
The Scheme provides financial assistance of up to $5,000 per semester, to a maximum of $30,000 per applicant, to assist in meeting costs incurred while studying undergraduate nursing. Scholarships will be available to students in any year of an undergraduate nursing degree.

Criteria
The scholarships are only available for courses leading to a qualification to practice as a Registered/Division 1 nurse. Up to 10 of these scholarships are designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants.

In order to be considered for the scholarship you must be currently enrolled or intending to enrol in an undergraduate, accredited, pre-registration (entry to practice) nursing course at an Australian university
OR
Currently enrolled or intending to enrol in a graduate entry, accredited, pre-registration (entry to practice) nursing course at an Australian university
OR
Currently enrolled or intending to enrol in the Masters of Nursing Program at an Australian University, leading to first-time registration as a Registered/Division 1 nurse.

Preference is given to applicants living and working in regional, rural and remote areas who can demonstrate a commitment to aged care. Applicants living in metropolitan areas with an aged care background are also encouraged to apply.
