FIT Travel Scholarship Application for United States and Canada

PURPOSE
The AAAAI will provide funding to assist Fellows-in-Training (FITs) in allergy/immunology and non-faculty PhDs to attend the 2010 AAAAI Annual Meeting.

This year’s meeting will be held February 26-March 2, 2010 in New Orleans, LA and will consist of four Plenary sessions, two Keynote sessions, symposia, scientific workshops, seminars, and abstract presentations. These will cover current research and clinical topics relevant to the field of allergy/immunology.

PROGRAM GOALS
• To offer an intellectually stimulating opportunity to FITs/PhDs who attend the 2010 Annual Meeting.
• To offer FITs/PhDs the opportunity to meet with their colleagues and learn from their experiences.
• To offer FITs/PhDs the opportunity to keep abreast of the current research in the field.

TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP TERMS
• A maximum of $650 for second or third-year FITs/PhDs who apply for a travel scholarship without submitting an accepted abstract for presentation.
• A maximum of $800 for first-year FITs/PhDs who apply for a travel scholarship without submitting an accepted abstract for presentation.
• A maximum of $1,100 to FITs/PhDs who apply for a travel scholarship and are first author of an abstract accepted for presentation; candidate must present his/her abstract at the Annual Meeting in order to be eligible for the $1,100 award.
• Please note: The above travel scholarship amounts are for actual meeting-related expenses incurred and receipts must be submitted after the meeting by April 23, 2010.
• This travel scholarship will reimburse domestic coach airfare, ground travel (including train or personal vehicle), hotel for meeting dates, course fees and meal expenses up to $59/day.
• Rental car, gasoline, abstract/poster-related fees, recreational activities, cellular phone bills, Internet access, and personal items are not eligible for reimbursement.

ELIGIBILITY
• Applicant must be an AAAAI In-Training member or a AAAAI PhD Post Doc member or have submitted a completed application for In-Training or PhD Post Doc membership before November 20, 2009.
• Applicants must be first, second or third year Fellows-in-Training in an allergy/immunology training program approved by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, or a clinical immunology and allergy training program approved by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada -OR- Non-faculty PhDs associated with the aforementioned training programs.
• Individuals with a faculty appointment will not be considered.

SELECTION
Travel scholarship selection is made by the Program Directors Assembly Executive Committee. Due to the limited availability of funds, some applications may not be accepted for funding. Preference will be given to those applicants who are first authors on abstracts that have been accepted for presentation at the Annual Meeting and who do not reside in the New Orleans, LA area. Accepted applicants will be notified in January 2010.

• If the Program Director is not an AAAAI Fellow, a sponsor who is an AAAAI Fellow must also sign the application form.

UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX SUPER TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
University of Phoenix Houston Campus in Texas has been a leader in helping adults achieve their educational goals for over 10 years. University of Phoenix Houston campuses are pleased to announce the offering of a Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum and Instruction (MAED/CI) degree program. Our Texas specific MAED/CI program has been approved by the Texas Education Agency. University of Phoenix Houston Campus will award a scholarship to a deserving individual pursing a master’s degree in education. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates for the scholarship must demonstrate the following to be considered:

1. Applicants who reside in the United States must meet one of the following requirements: be a legal resident of the United States; have been granted permanent residency; have a valid visa that does not prohibit educational studies; have been granted temporary protected status along with approved Notice of Action issued by Citizen Immigration Services and verified through CIS Form g-845; or have been granted asylum along with the approved Notice of Action issued by the Citizen Immigration Services.

2. Applicant must currently be a licensed teacher in the state of Texas.

3. Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from a regional accredited University and meet University of Phoenix education admission requirements.

4. Applicant must not be currently receiving or will be receiving once enrolled 100% tuition reimbursement from any source(s).

5. Are not employees or family members of employees of Apollo Group, Inc., University of Phoenix, Western International University, Institute for Professional Development or any other subsidiary of Apollo Group, Inc.

6. Submit a complete, signed application, together with all supporting documentation, if any, by the deadline date listed under the Selection Process section. The completion of the application form does not create an obligation to award a scholarship to applicant.

7. Submit an essay. High importance will be placed on the applicant’s desire to advance in their education, with an emphasis on furthering their careers, and their impact in the community for which they reside. To be considered, the essay must meet the following requirements:

American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) Scholarship Program-2009-2010

The mission of the American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) is to contribute to national, state, and local efforts to promote health and wellness in people with disabilities and identify effective intervention strategies that reduce health disparities between people with disabilities and the general population. AAHD accomplishes its mission through research, education and advocacy at the national, state and community level.

In 2008, AAHD launched the Disability and Health Journal (DHJ), the first peer reviewed, scientific, scholarly and multidisciplinary journal that focuses on health promotion and wellness for people with disabilities. In 2009, AAHD created the AAHDScholarship Program, which will support students with disabilities who are pursuing higher education. Preference will be given to students who plan to pursue undergraduate/graduate studies in the field of public health, health promotion, disability studies, to include disability policy and disability research. Royalties from theDHJ will fund the first year of the AAHD Scholarship Fund.

As 2009 is the first year of the scholarship program, funds are limited and we anticipate that scholarships will be competitive. Scholarships will be limited to under $1,000. The AAHD Board of Directors Scholarship Committee will evaluate each of the applicants and make a decision in December of each calendar year. The first AAHDScholarship Award will be awarded December, 2009. It is the discretion of the Scholarship Committee to determine how many scholarships will be awarded each year and the amount of each scholarship, as well as final determination of the recipients.

The AAHD board and staff are excited to be able to launch this program and support the efforts and dedication of students who have chosen to pursue higher education in the field of disability.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM CRITERIA
Applicant must be a high school graduate, have a documented disability and provide documentation of their disability.

Application must be a US citizen or legal resident living in the US and enrolled in, or accepted by, an accredited US four year university or graduate school on a full-time basis.

Preference will be given to students majoring in public health, disability studies, health promotion or a field related to disability and health.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant must provide a Personal Statement (maximum 3 pages-double spaced), including brief personal history, educational/career goals, extra-curricular activities, and reasons why they should be selected AAHD Scholarship Committee. This Statement must be written solely by the applicant.

Applicant must provide three Letters of Recommendation (One must be from a teacher or academic advisor).

Applicant must provide an official copy of high school transcript as well as college transcript (if applicable).

Applicant must agree to allow AAHD to use their name, picture and/or story in future scholarship materials.

The National Estuarine Research Reserve System’s Graduate Research Fellowship provides master’s degree students and Ph.D. candidates with an opportunity to conduct research of local and national significance that focuses on enhancing coastal zone management.

Fellows conduct their research within a National EstuarineResearch Reserve and gain hands-on experience byparticipating in their host reserve’s research and monitoring programs.

Coca-Cola Scholars Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

1. Seniors in high schools throughout the United States who meet the eligibility requirements may apply each year for one of 250 four-year, achievement-based scholarships. Students will find the application link on coca colaweb-page between August 1 and October 31. The deadline is October 31st and the student must be a senior at the time of application.

2. Approximately 2,200 applicants will be selected as Semifinalists in mid-November and notified by mail and email. Semifinalists must then complete a secondary application, including essays, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. Semifinalist applications will be due by mid-January. Our Program Review Committee will select 250 Finalists to advance to the final interview phase. Notifications are sent mid-February.

3. In April, the 250 Finalists are invited to Atlanta for personal interviews. The Finalists are interviewed by a National Selection Committee representing outstanding leaders in business, government, education and the arts. 50 students are then designated as National Scholars and receive awards of $20,000 for college; 200 students are designated as Regional Scholars and receive awards of $10,000 for college.

The MPIE Ford Foundation Scholarship is a need-based scholarship for African American/Black, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian American/Pacific Islander, and Hispanic students. The primary purpose of this

4. Forge new links between those working on the similar women’s human rights issues in Africa and Washington, DC, consciously coordinating efforts and sharing information;
5. Enable African lawyers to perform meaningful work during the Fellowship with public interest organizations in Washington, DC;
6. Demonstrate to women’s rights lawyers the intimate connection between policy-making and lawyering;
7. Contribute to the crucial work being done in African countries to improve the status of women;
8. Increase the understanding of women’s rights as legal and public policy issues of equal importance to women and men;
9. Spark effective research, writing and advocacy initiatives to improve enforcement of laws and regulations designed to improve the status of African women; and develop a forum for leaders and other prominent policy makers in Washington, DC, to address legal, public policy, and human rights issues relating to African women.

Military Road School Preservation Trust Scholarship

The Military Road School Preservation Trust (the Trust) awards a scholarship annually as an incentive to one or more local students in need of financial assistance for college. The Trust’s Board of Directors is pleased to honor the memory of Mrs. Donnessa Hill Lucas in the naming of this scholarship.

Mrs. Lucas attended the Military Road School from 1921-1929. The school provided an environment that fostered a premier education for African American children throughout the Washington area from its establishment out of the Fort Stevens Army barracks in 1865 until its closing as a public school in 1954. Mrs. Lucas was a founding member of the Military Road School Alumni Association, formed in 1997 with the expressed and successful goal of securing
historical status for the school building located at 1375 Missouri Avenue, NW, Washington, DC.

Research Associateship Programs

The mission of the NRC Research Associateship Programs (RAP) is to promote excellence in scientific and technological research conducted by the U. S. government through the administration of programs offering graduate, postdoctoral, and senior level research opportunities at sponsoring federal laboratories and affiliated institutions.

In these programs, prospective applicants select a research project or projects from among the large group of opportunities listed on this website. Prior to completing an application, prospective applicants should contact the proposed Research Adviser to assure that funding will be available if their application is recommended by NRC panels. Once mutual interest is established between a prospective applicant and a Research Adviser, an application is submitted through the NRC WebRap system. Reviews are conducted four times each year and review results are available approximately 6-8 weeks following the application deadline.

MS Graduate Assistantship, University of Missouri, USA

M.S. GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP - A M.S. graduate student is sought to study demography and movement in Missouri’s declining greater Prairie Chicken population. Working in collaboration with Missouri Department of Conservation biologists and University of Missouri scientists, the student will undertake a radio tracking project to study movements and demography of resident and translocated birds in multiple landscapes. Using existing information and population data collected through this study, the student will develop demographic and movement models that will serve as foundations for future management. Candidates must have a B.S. in wildlife science, biology, or a closely related discipline, a GPA > 3.0, and combined verbal and quantitative GRE scores > 1100. Ability to work with a diversity of natural resource professionals, and an interest in wildlife/habitat relationships, conservation of declining populations, and quantitative techniques are essential. Position is available immediately, and applications will be accepted until a qualified candidate is identified. Position includes annual salary, a tuition waiver, and research funds.
